Bath - England

Bath is one of those places that you should really visit.

It's one of England's most historic and charming cities.

From Roman history, Georgian architecture, cafes and boutique shopping it's an ideal day trip.

We have been to Bath a few times and it never fails to deliver.

Whether you go for the history or the shopping Bath has something for everyone.

This trip was all about the Abbey.

I'd booked tickets as a birthday present for Clare, so later in the month we headed to Bath

Bath Abbey was the venue, we were off to see West End Musicals by Candlelight, it didn't start until 19:30 so we decided to head up mid afternoon as it was right in the middle of the time we were moving house!

The kids and dogs were in Grannies care for the evening as we took the hour and a bit drive to Bath.

I'd booked a B&B for the evening so we didn't have to rush back. For the evening I'd booked Oldfields House it was situated half way up the hill about a 10 minute walk in to Bath centre.

An elegant Victorian guesthouse with views over Bath, the hospitality and the breakfast were brilliant, if heading to Bath I'd recommend staying here, there is a £10 parking fee on arrival if you drive.

Oldfields House offers beautifully styled rooms in keeping with the house and feels more like a retreat after a day of exploring

As this wasn't our first time to Bath we had done the normal trips like the Roman Baths with cream tea at The Pump House and strolling along the River Avon.

This time we were solely here for the Abbey.

Checked in at Oldfields House, we got ready and walked into Bath to grab a bite to eat, there are so many great places to eat in Bath, but we had already decided on a visit to Wagamama's, the food is always good and we love the we'll serve what's cooked first approach.

Fully fed, we made our way to the Abbey.

The Abbey itself is an amazing building, it's presence in the heart of the city and striking statues and stone carvings, during the day there are tours available or you can explore yourself and again it's well worth a visit.

We took our seats in the middle of the Abbey, refreshments were available and bookable for the half-time interval.

Not sure what to expect, the Abbey started filling up. The music started not long after and was superb, guest singers accompanied the musicians for songs from well known West End Musicals, I was impressed that even I knew some of the words!

The show went on for about two hours and it flew by, it was a great evening and Clare fully enjoyed her birthday concert. We will definitely be heading to more of the Candlelight concerts, the music echoed around the Abbey and the sound was incredible.

Bath again delivered for a day and night out. We headed back to Oldfields House and woke to a superb full English breakfast.

Just what was needed for the drive home.

Final Thoughts

Bath itself offers a blend of culture, history and relaxation that can be hard to find in other cities, it offers everything within a compact walkable area. Staying overnight gives that extra benefit of not having to rush, Oldfields House was just brilliant with everything it offered and the breakfast was second to none.
