Rome - Italy

Rome - Well this was a little unplanned but what a great day it turned out to be

I'd been working with a colleague up around Lake Como for a couple of weeks, it was just after the covid disaster had calmed down, but there was still a few restrictions in place.

We were halfway through a return to service project and needed something to do for the weekend.

The decision for me was an easy one - buy a ticket for the rugby get to Rome from Lake Como.....easy! I bought my ticket and looked at the options for getting to Rome.

Andy (my work colleague) had decided he also liked the idea of heading to watch the rugby. He had a hire car which made the trip a little easier to plan

So with our tickets purchased, we made the decision to fly to Rome. Flights between the two cities are fair frequent and cost around £120 return.  Booking the earliest flight possible with the latest return.

Game day - we arrived at Linate airport in Milan around 5:30am for our 7am departure. Drove from the Lake and left the car in the multistorey for the day. It was quite early so not much was open in the airport, but the cafe for coffee was...thank goodness needed it at that time in the morning!

And with that we were off to Rome.......Italy vs England in the Six Nations was to be our final stop

From Rome airport we caught a bus (7 euros) in to the city train station. There are other alternatives like the train which goes at regular intervals or you can get a taxi.

First stop was to find breakfast, I was hungry by this point! The flight was about an hour so by the time we got to the city centre it was nearly 9am.

We spent the next few hours running around Rome trying to fit in what we could before kick-off

To be fair I think we did alright.

With the sightseeing for the day done.

We took the walk to Stadio Olimpico to watch Italy vs England .

To be fair we had no idea where to go so just followed the crowd of people, luckily they were heading the right way!

It was a decent walk to the stadium with lots of singing and cheering, that continued all throughout the game!

If you've not been to Stadio Olimpico it is well worth a trip whether to watch a game of football or just to take a tour it's a little something extra for when you visit Rome.

I managed to get myself a pretty decent seat, five rows from the front.

Andy, he didn't do as well

That's Andy giving us a wave from the back.

It wasn't a packed game so he did come down the front once the game had kicked-off!

We had a great time, the whole running around Rome, seeing some incredible places along the way. Topped off with my first ever live Six Nations game.

The atmosphere was amazing, both sets of fans mixing in and singing together just brilliant.

we had England fans cheering for Italy to score a try and Italian fans cheering England on.

I can fully recommend heading to Rome, it was such an amazing place, I intend heading back with the family and spending more time just taking in the sights and sounds.

Let me know if you have been or if you plan on going.

Until the next adventure.
